This three session class uses a mindful way for stress reduction. Students will learn a variety of introductory skills such as working with the breath, mindful eating and mindful walking. We will learn the parts of the brain involved with stress and anxiety, and how using these practices can help train our brain. We will learn how to work with our emotions and thoughts to produce more positive choices. Each student receives a workbook and audio support. Students who have completed the class report being better able to cope with stress and anxiety as well as feeling happier and calmer.

Each class is two hours and involves the following topics:

Day One: What is mindfulness? & Directing Attention Turning Towards Calm
Day Two: Recognizing and Dealing with Worry & Being Here Now: Learning to be in the Present
Day Three: Moving Mindfully, Working with our Thoughts & Befriending the Difficult

Instructor:
Cheryl Blackington was a teacher with Forest Hills Schools for 35 years. Because of the growing number of anxious teens, Cheryl has turned her attention to teaching them how to manage their stress using mindfulness. She is certified by .b Mindfulness in Schools. In addition, she has taken the Mindful Schools online eight week curriculum class, continued her own personal growth and practice, and has taught teens Mindfulness for a number of years. Cheryl presents to schools and organizations because of the passionate belief that all students should learn basic self care and loving kindness tools.
